Our Guest Speaker: Evelina Sluga

Evelina is the Religious Ed. Associate for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish in Pittsburgh. She grew up in the small town of Wayneboro, PA, and, while having two siblings, they were much older and she felt like an only child, “a loner”. A long and self-destructive time of questioning and searching was triggered soon after her eighth-grade Confirmation. While still in High School, she became agnostic, started to drink and use drugs, including psychedelics. Her self-destructive behavior continued through college as she searched for who and what she could truly believe in and she became increasingly alienated from her Catholic faith. Her search even included witchcraft, tarot, conspiracy theories, and promiscuity.
One day, upon experiencing a spiritual attack, she finally cried out to God, telling Him how scared she was. Evelina heard God reply, “Do you understand now?” and she understood then that He is the Truth. About a year after her initial reversion, she began running into a new Catholic friend who was going to college in Pittsburgh. This friend invited Evelina to visit Pittsburgh and introduced her to other Catholic young adults who showed her compassion and love. Evelina began to see that God had never left her side and she decided to make the move. In 2023 she moved to Pittsburgh and became the Youth Minister at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. She leans on Psalm 23 and the Litany of Trust. Evelina knows that even though her choices were bad, God never abandoned her and was able to bring her back.

Prayer teams are available following the meal.
Religious books and CD’s may be available at the meal.
Since the day is designed to speak to the hearts of women, free of distractions, it is respectfully requested that young children not be in attendance.
