Guest Speaker – Fr. Ray Hymel

Spiritual Advisor for Magnificat Metairie
Fr. Ray is a native of Reserve, LA. and a graduate of St. Peter School and East St. John High School.  He was ordained a priest in 1987 by Archbishop Philip Hannan, who also confirmed him 12 years earlier.

Now in his 37th. year of parish ministry throughout the archdiocese in quite of number of parishes, Fr. Ray is currently pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Church in Des Allemands.  Yet with the merge of St. Gertrude’s with the neighboring St. John the Baptist parish in Paradis, he will be reassigned as pastor of another parish (at this writing still unknown to him) effective July 1, 2024.

Being asked to be the spiritual director for the Metairie Chapter of Magnificat, the “Mother Chapter,” is an honor and privilege for Fr. Ray since he has had, since he can remember, a very strong and ever-present devotion to our Blessed Mother Mary.  He is quite pleased to share the devotion of Our Lady with others through his ministry and involvement with Magnificat.

History of Magnificat Metairie, Mother Chapter

(Archdiocese of New Orleans)
The first Magnificat Breakfast was held in New Orleans, LA on Oct. 7, 1981. During the next 6 years expansion of the ministry took place necessitating division of duties between two teams: a central service team to concentrate on expansion and a Metairie service team to plan the MAGNIFICAT Meal locally and have the privilege of being called the “Mother Chapter.”
