SPEAKER:  Barbara Schleben

Mrs. Barbara Schleben is a Systems Engineer working at Air Force Global Strike Command at Barksdale Air Force Base for the past 7 years. She retired in 2017 as a Senior Master Sergeant serving 26 years in the United States Air Force. During her career, she deployed to Bosnia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Quatar (twice), and United Arab Emirates, and served in Korea separated from her 2 girls for a year, She met her husband Troy in 1998, and they have been married for almost 21 years. They settled here in Shreveport with their combined family of 5 kids and 7 grandkids. Seems simple, but this journey was not easy. Her life decisions were challenging and sometimes it seemed there was no way out. No Hope, But Barb was motivated and knew God had a plan for her in this life. She knew by 10 years old when her Catechism teachers told her that she had a glow about her that God was guiding her. Barb would always return to the church and confession, then hope would return through prayer. She prayed novenas in difficult times and the Blessed Mother Mary answered her prayers many times. She never gave in to giving up. Her perseverance was guided by God’s love, and her willingness to trust in Him.

You may know Barb from Holy Family Catholic Community at Barksdale Air Force Base as she has serving as the 2d grade Catechist, presently runs the 1st Sunday Socials, and was a past Catholic Coordinator. She joined our Magnificat membership last year. She also serves in the community as the Vice President of Woody’s Home for Veterans and serves as the Legislative Trustee for the Air Force Sergeant’s’ Association Chapter 615. She is a Lifetime member of AFSA, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and of AFCEA International. With Veteran’s Day on 11 November, we are excited to have Barb as our guest speaker!

Come, bring a friend and hear Barb’s story of career, family and faith!
