We welcome you to the webpage of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist Chapter of Magnificat in McHenry, Illinois. These are exciting times that we live in and Magnificat was begun in 1981 for such a time as this. There are now over 100 chapters throughout the United States and its territories and in many foreign countries.

Our Guest Speaker: Sister Appolonia Irika

Sister Appolonia is originally from Nigeria and belongs to the Congregation of Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy (DMMM) whose charism is to bear witness to the Mercy God by following the footsteps of Christ, the merciful savior and that of Mary of Mother of Mercy.  Sister’s spirituality and her perspective “Doing ordinary things extraordinarily good.” is her way of life.

Sister Appolonia did some ministry in Rome and Sicily, Italy before she was transferred to the United States to further her education.  After her graduation from Wayne State University, Michigan with a Master’s in Educational Psychology, she felt the call to serve as a chaplain in the community hospital setting.

She completed her Clinical Pastoral Education at  Ascension Mercy Hospital in Aurora.  Her ministry began at formerly known Centegra Hospitals (now Northwestern Medicine) she concurrently  serves  the Elgin community at Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital.

History of McHenry, IL- Mary, Mother of the Eucharist Chapter of Magnificat

(For the Diocese of Rockford) It all began with the Blessed Mother.  Following a visit to Medjugorje, Annette Baber was drawn to a Texas chapter of Magnificat.  When she moved to Illinois in 2000 Our Lady kept prompting her to found a new chapter.  It started with a simple prayer group of local devout Catholic women.  It was at these prayer meetings that they felt the promptings to begin the process of officially becoming a part of Magnificat. 2002 saw the group anointed by their spiritual director, Fr Robert Sherry. There were 550 at their first prayer breakfast in May. They led Life in the Spirit seminars, weekly prayer meetings and numerous prayer breakfasts over the years. Mary, Mother of the Eucharist chapter continues to serve and lead women to support each other and birth Jesus in our hearts as Our Mother did.
