HEAR THE MOVING TESTIMONY OF: Sr. Mary Nelle Gage

GOD’S GIFTS AND GRACE

Mary Nelle Gage was born in Augusta, GA. In 1958, her family moved to Dallas, Texas, where her father was employed as a sportswriter on the Dallas Morning News; her mother was an elementary teacher in Catholic schools; and Mary Nelle was enrolled in High School at the Ursuline Academy for girls. Thereafter, she was awarded a scholarship from Lorreto Heights College where she met the Sisters of Lorreto ..smiling, laughing, welcoming, inspiring teachers. She entered the Lorreto Congregation in Denver and taught as a Postulant at St Mary’s Academy before leaving for the Loretto Motherhouse in Kentucky for her novitiate year.

Sr Mary Nelle’s first mission was to Machebeuf High School, teaching English, speech and drama, preparing students for weekend speech tournaments throughout Denver. She lived with 24 other teaching sisters at Blessed Sacrament Convent for 4 years.

In 1973, Sr Mary Nelle joined another Sister of Lorreto in Saigon. The North Vietnamese communists were overtaking South Vietnam at that time and the last month of their work was with Operation Babylift, rescuing thousands of orphans. She spent weeks in San Francisco and Seattle meeting arriving flights and working with the child-welfare organization, Friends For All Children.

Over the past 50 years, Sr Mary Nelle continued working with adopted orphans, organizing reunions and escorting adoptees and their families to Vietnam to explore their history.

Sr Mary Nelle’s most recent task involved the 110-year-old cemetery on the Lorreto Heights Campus. After several years of study, research and prayerful deliberation, the decision was made to exhume 62 pioneer Sisters of Lorreto and re-bury them at Mt Olivet where 21 Sisters of Lorreto were already buried and where perpetual care would be available to them.

Sr Mary Nelle credits the Holy Spirit who blessed her with many opportunities to serve the needs of others and led her on paths where she has been touched by so many. She believes “The Gifts and graces from God are countless”.

Don’t miss this chance to hear Sr Mary Nelle’s amazing journey and testimony.

History of Our Chapter

Our story begins when our founder, Mary Lou Alexander Bruch, heard a member of Magnificat being interviewed on Catholic Radio in April of 2010. She was very impressed by the woman who gave her testimony on how God was working in her life. Mary Lou decided the women in Colorado needed Magnificat and wanted to form a chapter in the Denver area.

Mary Lou contacted Magnificat Ministries in New Orleans, LA and learned how to begin the process of forming a chapter. Kathy MacInnis invited Mary Lou to attend the international conference in New Orleans in order to experience fully what the ministry and its women are all about.
Mary Lou returned home and excitedly shared her vision of a chapter with friends. Eventually, eight women were convinced to join her and start a Denver chapter. Mary Lou declared that God put all the right women in her life at just the right time.

Our Lady Of The Blessed Sacrament Chapter had its first meal on October 19, 2013
