We welcome you to the webpage of the West Bank/Marrero Chapter of Magnificat! These are exciting times that we live in and Magnificat was begun in 1981 for such a time as this. There are now over 100 chapters throughout the United States and its territories and in many foreign countries.

About Our Speaker: Rev. José I. Lavastida
Rev. José I. Lavastida, S.T.D. was born in Havana, Cuba and raised in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He earned a B.S. in Business Adm. from LSU in 1982. In May 1987, he graduated from Notre Dame Seminary, Summa Cum Laude, with an M.A. in Sacred Theology and was ordained a priest on May 16. From 1987 to 1994 Fr. Lavastida served in two parishes: St. Jerome in Kenner and Christ the King in Terrytown, both with well- organized Hispanic Ministry.
In 1994, Arch. Schulte sent him to Rome where he completed his Licentiate in Sacred Theology in 1996, Summa Cum Laude. He earned his doctorate in Moral Theology in 1998 Summa Cum Laude, specialization in Bioethics.
Fr. Lavastida served as Academic Dean of Notre Dame Seminary, N.O., and in 2007 was named President Rector. In 2013 he was named Exec. Director of the Dept. of Christian Formation of the Archdiocese and was also assigned as Pastor of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos Parish.
Fr. Lavastida is a Lt Commander of the U.S. Navy and Chaplain to the 4th Marine Division Headquarters in N.O. From 2001-2004 he was Chaplain to the 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines and was deployed to Iraq from March to October, 2003. The entire Battalion received the Presidential Unit Commendation Medal for their service during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Fr. Lavastida is a frequent retreat director addressing subjects concerning moral theology, bioethics, sexual ethics, theology of the body, spirituality, Hispanic ministry and military ministry.
Personal Prayer ministry is available after the meal.
Religious books and CD’s may be available at the meal.
Since the day is designed to speak to the hearts of women, free of distractions, it is respectfully requested that young children not be in attendance.
