“Not as I will, but as you will.” Matthew 26: 39

Author, catechist and speaker, Maria Morera Johnson was born in Cuba. Her family immigrated to Atlanta in the 1960s, where she went to Catholic schools. Her parents rocked her world and moved to Miami, Florida, where she finished high school and attended Florida International University and the University of Miami.

Maria met her husband
in a church youth group in Miami. She became a high school English teacher while waiting to become a New York Times best-selling author.
Throughout her childhood and young adulthood, Maria doggedly submitted stories and poems for publication. It resulted in just as many rejections. Defeated, she quit trying and focused on raising a family. Three teenagers, a husband building a business, and a scrappy dog kept her busy.
Nothing is wasted in God’s economy. He placed that desire to write in her heart, so all those years developed her craft. When Maria had a profound spiritual conversion and aligned her will to God’s, everything changed. She shares how her fiat changed the course of her life and the explosion of graces that followed.
Maria is the author of “My Badass Book of Saints: Courageous women who showed me how to live” and “Super Girls and Halos” and contributor to CatholicMom.com.

Personal Prayer ministry is available after the meal by the Magnificat Service Team.
Confessions will be available at the end of the meal.

HISTORY of Joyful Visitation Chapter of Magnificat

[for the Archdiocese of Atlanta]

Olga Myers attended her first Magnificat Breakfast while visiting her sister in Tampa, Florida in 1990. She returned to her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia filled with zeal and joy. After sharing her experience with two other women, Jan Nerone and Elyse O’Kane, they began to pray and pray and pray for discernment of God’s will in bringing Magnificat to Atlanta.

After going through formation and receiving the approval of the local bishop, the first working meeting was held on June 17, 1991. This was followed by a Presentation Tea on February 8, 1992 to introduce Magnificat Joyful Visitation Chapter to the area and to help others discover how they can be a part of this joyful ministry.

The first Magnificat Breakfast was held on May 2, 1992 at All Saints Catholic Church. The speaker was Mary Welch Rogers and over 400 women attended. The first Service Team members were Olga Myers, Jan Nerone, Ann Marie Hendriks and Judy Guilfoil. Fr. William Hickey was their Spiritual Advisor and Elyse O’Kane was placed in charge of the Music Ministry.
