Guest Speaker: Sister Beatrice

“I have called you by name and you are mine.”
 Isaiah 43:1

Sister Mary Beatrice Raphael is a canonical hermit, having professed perpetual vows to this consecrated life for the Archdiocese of Atlanta last year.
How and why does God draw someone from a full life, including a medical career and family, to this vocation?
Growing up in Marietta, she was one of four siblings in her faithful Catholic family. The eldest became a priest. She was drawn to solitude and silence.
As an adult, she appeared to have everything one could want, a successful career, family, travel and social life. While she kept practicing her faith and considered herself a “good” Catholic, something was missing and out of order. There was no depth to her spiritual life.
Things began to change when she made a Cursillo and learned about listening to God. She began attending daily Mass and as often as possible spent an hour in Eucharistic adoration. Soon followed a major shift, magnitude 7.5!
This is the Magnificat Sister Beatrice will proclaim, how in a series of experiences, through prayer and learning to hear the Lord, this doctor realized the Lord wanted her to consecrate herself to him and also realized that she would need to give up everything to say “yes” in response

Personal Prayer ministry is available after the meal by the Magnificat Service Team.
Confessions will be available at the end of the meal.
Religious books and CDs are available at the meal.

Since the day is designed to speak to the hearts of women, free of distractions, it is respectfully requested that young children not be in attendance.

HISTORY of Joyful Visitation Chapter of Magnificat

[for the Archdiocese of Atlanta]

Olga Myers attended her first Magnificat Breakfast while visiting her sister in Tampa, Florida in 1990. She returned to her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia filled with zeal and joy. After sharing her experience with two other women, Jan Nerone and Elyse O’Kane, they began to pray and pray and pray for discernment of God’s will in bringing Magnificat to Atlanta.

After going through formation and receiving the approval of the local bishop, the first working meeting was held on June 17, 1991. This was followed by a Presentation Tea on February 8, 1992 to introduce Magnificat Joyful Visitation Chapter to the area and to help others discover how they can be a part of this joyful ministry.

The first Magnificat Breakfast was held on May 2, 1992 at All Saints Catholic Church. The speaker was Mary Welch Rogers and over 400 women attended. The first Service Team members were Olga Myers, Jan Nerone, Ann Marie Hendriks and Judy Guilfoil. Fr. William Hickey was their Spiritual Advisor and Elyse O’Kane was placed in charge of the Music Ministry.
